Album Review... Geezer - Psychoriffadelia

Now here’s a conundrum; do I research a band's bio before a review? Do I allow their words and photos positively or negatively influence my interpretation of the music? Nah! So all apologies upfront.

Geezer - 'Psychoriffadelia' opens with low guttural sounds then straight into a de-tuned cover version of Nazareth’s 'Hair of the Dog'.  The easily recognised riff surges forth, you can almost feel the sound wave created by those open strings.  Riff laden with quiet/loud sections, the next track 'Stressknots' maybe should have opened the album, but hey that’s my opinion.

The instrumental title track 'Psychoriffadelia' is where the album really starts to take shape; a combination of riffs and carefully constructed melodic chordal progression that draws the listener in.  It circles around but rewards you with the expected result; slowly building, yet always extenuating the main riff.  The drums drift in and out, giving a trippy, distant, hazy sound.  The tracks all intersect together, without any space, so seamlessly next up is fourth song 'Red Hook'.  Tremolo intro, with a haunting backing; the guitar riff has a superb repetitive eastern flavour and atmospheric slide guitar parts with the song featuring minimal vocals, six minutes long to soak up the centre of the album, nicely.  Spacey flanger sounds kick in, leading into the main riff of final track 'Dirty Penny'; a song of two halves.
Underpinned by a solid rock riff, soaked in modulation, the song starts; tight bass and drums carry the song for the first five minutes, before morphing into a guitar jam.  Halfway through the track, the guitars slow down in pace, as a more spacey sound swirls around, before the drums wind it down to silence for a few seconds before kicking back in. The guitar returns with a fresh wah laden riff. This starts what I’d call the second movement of the song, quickening pace with a more free form jam atmosphere, of a similar vein to the title track, these parts are where the album really shines.
'Dirty Penny' closes the album brilliantly, with an bluesy acoustic slide guitar section that drifts away to the end of the album.
Overall, a great album that I’ve grown to like and replay many times; the parts where it really excelled are the more wig out instrumental sections where the musicianship involved shone through. I'm still not too sure about opening with a cover version...
Recommended.

Album Review... Grombira - Grombira Oriental Space Rock.

Hypnotic Bavarian Oriental Spacerock, makes perfect sense to me; and it definitely makes sense to Tonzonen records as they've just released the new Grombira record.
The band biography promises magic carpet rides with plenty of space to dance, in a nutshell, thats exactly what you get here.

The record begins with chimes and atmospheric rhythms of the track 'Pürreé'; the groove builds slowly over Eastern sound patterns and then suddenly explodes in to an incredible  high charged (oriental, yes) space rock freakout; the music is tight and engrossing. The trippy 'Carpe Noctem' follows with gongs and pipes and once more builds an ambience of cosmic oriental auras.  As with the opener, the song transforms into another hypnotic exploration of psychedelia and world rhythms before introducing trancey mantra-like vocals.
'Caravan is more stripped back piece played over simple rhythms and an acoustic guitar whilst hushed soundscapes of human interactions can occasionally be heard in the background.
'Goats in Space' is much more a traditional space rock track, the guitars are heavier and musically so too.
For me, one of the standout tracks is 'Priest of the Horny Kong' an irresistibly groovy piece that incorporates funky rhythms and bass over the Eastern styles and rocks out relentlessly, it's a trip you'll dance all the way through! The same can be said for the last track 'Selma'; whilst much shorter than most of the record at just under 6 minutes, it follows on as a full on freakout and really satisfying way to conclude the album.

The tripped out trio have put together a blend jazzy and psychedelic space rock and added oriental flavours with the use of sitars, ouds and lutes to make something very special; I hadn't heard anything by the band previously so some online reading explains just how hard working a band they are, especially live.
In fact the more you know, the more it makes sense that they have signed to Tonzonen; like label mates Knall this is a band that capture songs as moments in time, with every play live the songs morph and evolve, the recording process merely captures a snapshot and if you want to hear the bigger picture you need to see them perform. GOSR is a fantastic record and comes highly recommended; and to this day is the only LP I've ever been told goes well with olives and roasted potatoes.

Album Review... Doublestone - Devils own / Djævlens Egn

Back in 2001 in Copenhagen, Doublestone originally formed as a duo by long time friends Michael James Bruun and Bo Blond Daugaard.  Doublestone later became a trio with the addition of Bo’s bass playing cousin.  In 2013 they released the 'Set The World Ablaze' EP and the self-titled 'Doublestone'.  The trio progressed further with Mos Generator’s Tony Reed to record their first full-length LP 'Wingmakers' in the basement of an old cheese factory in central Copenhagen.  This catapults the band to gain wider attention and praise with their reputation for playing 70s-influenced hard rock, psychedelia and southern metal.

'War Machine' leads the way setting out the tone of the record; vintage 70's style production and riffs straight from the dark lord (Ionni) himself.  As with the majority of the record, it wears its influences proudly for all to see. 'Here Comes the Serpent' rolls up next, again the track has a classic rock aesthetic to it's approach and delivers a sound like contemporary artists Kadaver and Siena Root.  The band demonstrate a real love for a time in rock history gone by, noted characteristically by the sounds of the guitars and bass work, resulting in real joy and a desire to get lost in it all.  The title track 'Devil's Own' slows things down to an engaging partially folk rock influenced piece.  Benefiting from a more acoustic style, it tells its own story before slowly introducing electric guitars for the emotive solo.
The second half of the album is sang entirely in Danish which makes it harder to comment on the themes, so far we've had wizards, snakes and lightning (although I'm pretty sure someone drinks coffee at some point)  its difficult for me to say where the final four tracks are going lyrically, not that it matters; musically the themes remain the same.
'Djævlens Egn' has a really cool rock n roll swagger to it, flirting with the 70's blues rock of bands like Dr Feelgood. 'I Natten' follows and once more harks back to distinguished sounds of bands such as Nazareth. The LP ends with the brilliant 'Solen Sover' a laid back beat and baseline give way to harmonised vocals and sporadic guitar licks before building into a perfect heavy rock blast out.

'Devil's Own' gets a release through Ripple Music, a label that over its past 5 years has proved to be a force to be reckoned with signing the likes of Wo Fat, Mothership, Zed, The Judge and the truly awesome Salem's Bend; those familiar with the label won't be surprised to read or hear Doublestone are a perfect fit for them.  It probably won't come as a surprise too that given they have a really authentic vintage rock style and loose stoner grooves to the tracks, I was sold on the first listen.  This is a record I can't stop listening to.  Get on it and pass it on.

Album Review... Motherdust - 1500

Hailing from Bielefeld, Germany; Motherdust are a 5 piece band renowned for hard-rocking, cosmic freakouts, and their contemporary Krautrock sound. Their album 1500 was originally released in 2014 digitally with a very limited run of CD.
Now it gets a, much deserved, vinyl reissue via German label Clostridium Records.

'Quarantine' opens to hypnotic swirling guitars and a steady beat over Lanneganesque vocal growls and fuzz.
'Mind the Gap' is a confident strutting piece of sonic blues; the build towards the intense wall of noise is intensely satisfying and really fitting with Stefan Popovic's gravelled tones. 'The Prisoner' is another track firmly influenced by heavy blues and whilst follow on track 'Shadows' continues the theme, it becomes darker before exploding into a mammoth dope-fuelled, space rock freakout.
'Coded Messages' is a filthy fuzzed up bass driven wall of distorted noise and squelching blasts of synth madness that builds to an oscillating end with guitars and baggy drumbeat.
The record concludes with the harmonica lead 'Same old Thing', once more influenced by smoke hazed blues and fierce vocal delivery.

It's an astounding record and a deeply satisfying listen; one of those rare records that once it ends you want to flip it right back to side A and put the needle back on.
1500 is my introduction to the band and I look forward to hearing more from them in the future.  I'm also intrigued as to how these tracks are served up live.
There's an energy that runs through the whole record that surely needs to be heard plugged in and amped up.
Mind bending and psychedelic; dirty, heavy and bluesy; these are irresistible combinations and this record delivers all of these things and more.  In fact, it's fair to say that Motherdust don't fuck about and you really should hear this record.  Highly Recommended.

Album Review... Knall - Raubkatze auf 12 Uhr

Tonzonen are an interesting label and are responsible for releasing some of my favourite albums of the last couple of years.  In particular, The Spacelords last 2 studio albums  and more recently, Sounds of New Soma's 'La Grande Bellezza'.  Both offer up similar approaches to the same spaced out Krautrock/Kosmische vibes in terms of attitude, and around the instrumentation used, but deliver them in their own unique manner.

Label mates Knall are something else.  I was totally blown away by the last release 'Alien Funk', so much so I had to double check that it was in fact a live album; the recording was immaculate, almost  inaudible crowd sounds and music so tight you'd think it took months of layering in a studio.  As was said then, thats the genius of Knall.  The band take their music and the bare ideas for a song and let it expand, the music evolves further from every time the band play.  What you hear on these studio sessions will be something far bigger and more realised when you hear it live; taking the idea of improvisation and jamming to new levels.

'Raubkatze' takes a single note and builds through the addition of a simple bass noodle, introduces a slow tempo funk drum pattern and lets it flourish from there.  By the time the track hits the 8 minute mark, it has exploded into brain melting, psych-injected space rock almost without you realising.
'Derwisch' carries on the flow but offers urgency and intensity within the guitars and swirling sounds that run with the pulverising drums.  Coming in at 15 minutes long is 'Fell', a looser track than the rest of the album, lavishly forged with spaced out sounds, funky bass and guitar licks, it locks itself in to a groove and keeps on going.

'Sightseeing' provides another example of psychedelic space rhythms and sounds developing over ever evolving drums and jazz inflected guitar work.
'Catwalk' is stylistically different, electronic bleeps and patterns bubble through fuzzy tones and Way-Wahs in a laid back manner.  Like 'Fell' this is another track that shows the more improvisational aspects of the band.  Album closer 'Lachs' once more demonstrates how Knall can take a sparse opening such as the clean guitar sound here and shape it into a funky intergalactic psych piece, simply through layering and measured introductions of each new section and instrument within the track.

Raubkatze auf 12 Uhr dazzles with every note.  As a snapshot in time for the band, it shows rich tones and funked up rhythms from another dimension; the added promise that what you see here is not what you're going to get when these tracks are played out live, makes the record even more intriguing and appealing.  The Ltd 2x purple vinyl is available via Tonzonen's online store, grab one while you can.

Highly Recommended.

More Dayz Of Purple And Hope - A Charity Compilation

About a year ago, Andy from the blog 'Dayz of Purple and Orange' assembled a charity compilation 'Dayz of Purple and Hope' in a bid to raise money for the the charities Cancer Research UK and World Cancer Research Fund International.  All profits were split between the two charities, the calibre of tracks donated was incredibly high by some exceptional artists from the world of Modern Psychedelia and Psychedelic Rock.

Sadly, since its release, Andy lost his own mother to cancer.  Soon after, Andy announced he was compiling a second volume, as he defiantly put it "the next step in unfinished business" to help raise more funds for the same charities.

It should come as no surprise that 27 tracks compiled here are nothing short of stunning; included in the set are Electric Moon's brilliant cover of 'Tomorrow Never Knows', Jonathan Morgan's 'Persian Astral', as well as tracks recorded especially for Volume 2 (Vert:X's 'Sixty-Nine Wheels and the Heavy Moon's 'Fuck Cancer'). The Band Whose Name is a Symbol and The Inteligence Service have kindly donated unreleased tracks for the project too. Other artists included are Sula Bassana, Dead Sea Apes, No Man's Valley and Psychic Lemon.

The compilation costs a very reasonable £10 via bandcamp and that gets you 2 albums worth of excellent music, whilst also donating to Cancer Research.
Head over to the Blog Bandcamp page on the links below, or alternatively Find DOPAO on Social media to show your support.

Holy Mount - The Drought

By the frigid, windy great lakes of Toronto, Canada, situated on a broad sloping plateau, intersected by an extensive network of rivers and deep ravines, lies HOLY MOUNT.  At the summit, four hermits have been gathering for years celebrating Heavy Psych ceremonies, channeling the mystery of the great north.  Their last recorded ritual, released early this year by White Dwarf, titled 'The Drought', shows the quartet comprised of Danijel, Brandon, Troy and Clayton, at their best with heavy doomy drones, ghostly enchantings and superb guitar riffs/solos, filled with fuzz, reverberating through the Black Mountains above into the Dead Meadows below.

You really can't top a write up like that, can you?
The Canadian 4 piece demonstrate a flair for making Heavy Psychedelic Rock sound epic on the 7 tracks delivered here, the shift from mammoth slices of stoner rock on the opening track 'Division' to highly intense, oscillating psychedelia of 'Basalt Seem Almost Effortless'. 'Omnicide switches to stoner again, but displays a harder pounding style, over brilliant fuzzed up tones and swirling guitars.  The excellent 'Blackened Log' is a sonic masterpiece where otherworldly vocals and dope fuelled riffs live happily together; Its depth of sound is captivating.  'Blood Cove' flirts with doom textures over heavy, bruising drums with a depth of sound that is nothing short of captivating.  The title track brings everything together with shades of post rock and incredible walls of fuzz and feedback.

Megaritual - Mantra Music

Megaritual is the solo project of Australian multi-instrumentalist Dale Walker (also member of Sun Of Man).  His monolithic, heavy rock tunes often bear deeper intensity than most four-piece bands would manage to create.  In addition, there's also this compelling atmosphere in his tunes, where one often feels like floating between thick Stonerrock grooves and later 60s Heavy Psychedelia, with a taste of India when he strikes chords on his Sitar. "Mantra Music Volume 2", is the second release within few months between 2014-2015.  This already comes close to perfection and is a real must have for Heavy Psych-afficionados! Strongly recommended if you enjoy bands like Om, Samsara Blues Experiment, Dead Meadow and Queen Elephantine.

The record has a engulfing, atmospheric quality. Its use of sitars, bells and compelling guitars is addictive as it is hypnotic; this is firstly evident in the opening track 'Is the Heart of the Mystery...', deep drones build over Eastern sounds and measured percussions as it leads beautifully in to 'Top of the Mountain to You'; the tribal pounding over a wall of chant like vocals and sonic blasts of guitars. "Stormbringer commences with shimmering sounds and a proclamation that tells us "the dark flight of the soul has just begun', once more, the Eastern tones move to heavier swirls of intense psychedelic rock patterns.  Elsewhere, styles move to acid folk with 'Is the Sound and '∞' a dope hazed slow burner driven with cosmic guitars and a touch of 70's Pink Floyd.  Closing Track 'Have you seen the Sky Lately' is a euphoric trip through magnificent beats and progressions as it draws to incredibly satisfysing close.

Lee Van Cleef - Holy Smoke

The project Lee Van Cleef was born, as a joke, at the end of 2015 and is the result of long jam sessions between Marco Adamo, guitarist (La polvere di Bodélé), Guido Minervini, drum (Efesto, Lamarck) and Pietro La Tegola, bass (Whiskeycold Winter).  The project is influenced by bands like Earthless, Black Bombaim, Harsh Toke (to name a few).  The first work "Holy Smoke" was recorded, mixed and mastered in the Godfather studio of Naples. The artwork was done by Robin Gnista."

Holy Smoke is a fascinating album.  As with Holy Mount and Megaritual, they're a band that keep you guessing.  'Heckle Yuppies' on the face of things begins as a stoner doom track, but as the song progresses it demonstrates some brain melting guitar work that has a great vintage rock quality over them in a psychedelic Hendrix kind of trip.  The same can be said of second track 'Banshee' but this time the bass driven groove and reverberating guitars assist the track in ascending to a higher plain over 13 minutes of stoned brilliance.  'Hell Malo' is fantastic Psych rock Jam, wah wah fuelled, with heavy attitude and more irresistible grooves. 'Mahãna' continues in the earlier stoner doom mould but maintains a heavy psych vibe, as it creates sonic wall of noise over a punishing drum beat and ferocious riff.  Closing track 'Towel' is the most psychedelic track in tone on offer and also the most majestic; the wailing guitars heave above you as the drums and bass line mesmerise.  Essential listening.

Album Review... 10,000 Russos - Distress Distress

Portugals 10,000 Russos are a formidable force within modern psychedelia; described as industrial psych/post-punk; they bring an intensely psychedelic buzz to their sound, whilst utilising hypnotic Krautrock rhythms.  Distress Distress is their second LP and is released by the London label Fuzz Club Records.

The record opens with 'Germinal', an arresting, motorik monster, that beats its way acerbically over 7 minutes of atmospheric drones and sonic inflections.  'Tutilitarian' delivers a confident bass line, whilst menacing walls of guitars and synths build and throb over its neo psych soundscapes.  'Europa Kaput' is up next and shares an approach to sound, not unlike label mates 'The Cult of Dom Keller'; the synth psych approach to modern psychedelia over krautrock beats and electronic soundscapes builds to a gratifying climax.  The sonic modulation and cosmic progressions of 'Ism' follows and shifts its focus of noise from light to dark effortlessly, before moving into the cloudy repetitions of 'Radio 1'.
'Distress' closes the record in style; a threatening beat pulsates over an evolving wall of oscillating feedback and ominous growling vocals, as the record draws to its satisfying conclusion.

Within the 6 tracks are dark undertones and heavy drones; Distress Distress demands your attention.  Inside the labyrinth of sounds are mysterious vocals, chants and metronomic rhythms; it mesmerises from start to finishes and envelopes you into a dark work of electronic psych and dope induced fogs. The influence of Neu! and Spacemen 3 are evident, but at times it also calls to mind the relentless intensity of more current acts such as Hookworms.

10,000 Russos remain a hard working, touring band.  Their performance at Liverpool Psych Fest was widely described as a stand-out set and is still being talked about now.  These tracks will surely take on heavier and irresistible form in a live set.
The futures bright for the trio right now, their second full length delivers so much and still promises more to come in the future.  Fuzz Club have played a blinder here; watch the end of year lists, you'll be seeing Distress Distress feature in many of them.

Album Review... Here Lies Man - Here Lies Man

What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat?

I'll be honest, it's not a question I've ever asked myself; Antibalas's Marcos J Garcia has though.  "These repetitive guitar figures that happen in Afrobeat music are pretty close to heavy rock guitar riffs," Garcia explains. "It's based on the clave;  the musical algorithm that the rhythms revolve around.  That's what gives it integrity and is part of this musical conversation thats going on.  I knew I wanted it to be psychedelic and heavy; and I wanted to be expanding on a musical tradition, rather than pretending to be creating something new."

'When I Come To' opens the record with a fuzzed up riff and punchy vocals; it demonstrates, in perfect fashion, what's to be delivered over its 8 tracks.  The music is hypnotic and the beats are unpredictable, especially evident on the second track 'I stand alone'.  Everything served up here is encased in a sonic wall of distorted electric fog and hefty rhythmic drumming . 'You Ain't Going Nowhere' puts itself it up for track of the year so far; intense, urgent and far-out, the drum work by Geoff Mann is incredible.

'Letting Go' doesn't let up the pace; the woozy synths interweave with the mantra like riffs and it's pounding counterpart as it leads to the psychedelic trip of instrumental track 'So Far Away'.  'Belt of the Sun' follows like a cosmic hurricane and brings to mind, Swedish band, Goat, but without their own trademark chanting vocal and given a harder, dirtier edge.  The album ends with the title track and once more demonstrates the addictive tribal psychfunk and looping beats the band set out to discover.

Whatever the inspiration/motivation was for Garcia to write and record the Here Lies Man record it works.  At its best, it’s groovy as hell with the right balance of heavy riffs and stoner fuelled rock, as well as the  psychedelic infused flourishes Garcia strived to create.
I can’t say whether, or not, it’s a combination that’s going to work for everybody.  As someone that doesn’t know too much about what’s considered great (Fela Kuti aside) in afrobeat circles;  I don’t suppose I can really say how it has an appeal that would be embraced by fans of afrobeat.  Garcia wanted to expand on that existing musical tradition and there's no argument that he's achieved that.

In a Month where The Cosmic Dead release an LP entitled ‘Psych is Dead’ and the Dead Sea Apes release an incredible Psych-Dub Record; it would seem that there is an appetite for change and to look at more interesting and challenging approaches to making Psychedelic rock music.
There are some fascinating artists right now, pushing the boundaries and are being backed up by really forward thinking labels.  As 2017 progresses, the calibre of new music is getting stronger and for now at least, Marcos J. Garcia and RidingEasy Records are at the forefront of that.   Here Lies Man have delivered something that’s completely original and spirited, if you’re willing to venture into new territory, this album comes highly recommended.

Album Review...Sula Bassana - Organ Accumulator

The last time I spoke with the multi talented and spaced out psych wizard Dave Schmidt from Sulatron Records was in December.  He released the LP 'Shipwrecked' under his Sula Bassana Moniker back in January 2016 and we were speaking about how it was one of my favourite albums of the year.
I asked him about his future plans, and he talked about how he was trying to spend less time touring, to work on more of his recorded works.
Dave had already recorded a new LP and explained "It was made, basically, on organs and portable keyboards; but with added synthesisers and drum machines."
In addition, Schmidt's revealed that he was using guitar and bass in one of the songs and the album was to be be called "Organ Accumulator", true to his word, just one year, after the release of Shipwrecked;  It's here.

Opening track 'Lichtbündel' is a mellow synth kosmische trip; a beautifully blissed out tune, that takes in elements of hypnotic dub, yet is very reminiscent of the early 90's electronic music by The Orb.  This is easily one of my favourite tracks of the year so far.  The album continues in the same cosmic manner with 'Morgentau' another other worldly synth exploration that glimmers rhythmically over a simple yet enhancing melody.  'The Frogs' has an irresistible beat with a sinister oscillation and keyboard progression; working effectively and delivering another album high point. The title track itself is a real treat, starting as an electronic motorik driven piece it soon moves and evolves into a guitar lead Spacerock monster, the addition of different instrumentation really elevates the track to another stratosphere.

'Grashamster' has darker tones than previous tracks, its feel is a much more expansive galactic fuzzy style that resonates over its slowly rolling drum groove.
The Final Track 'Nebelschwaden' is much more cinematic as it unravels over its 10 minute length; its another mellow journey of cerebral joy and a more than fitting way to conclude the record.

I imagine Shipwrecked may have been a tough record to follow; it was without question one of the best records of 2016. To approach a follow up within a year with something as different, and yet familiar sounding as Organ Accumulator must've been quite a task.  As you might expect, its sound is very much within the styles of classic German electronic music; but also demonstrates a contemporary feel. Being prolific, yet keeping the quality control up to a high standard is clearly something Dave Schmidt doesn't have a problem with.

If you buy the CD issue, you'll also get the Sula Bassana tracks from the split release with 3am originally released in 2014; bonus!

Album Review...Sounds of New Soma - La Grande Bellezza

Sounds of New Soma are back with their third neo-krautrock trip, the follow up to last years excellent 'Moebius Tunnel'.
La Grande Bellezzais marks the return of music enthusiasts Alexander Djelassi and Dirk Raupach of the neo-krautrock project 'Sounds Of New Soma'. The duo are known for their intensified oscillations between electroexperimental soundscapes and blistering space rock.

Opening with 'Bundesgartenschau' the album starts its ascent into space with atmospheric and beautifully orchestrated swirls of synths over  tempo setting bass and rhythmic drum patterns.  'Der Gruene Pilz' is a peculiar blend of echoey German spoken word, chimes and almost random drum bursts; whilst baffling to me, it still manages to fit within the  constructs and flow of album, as it leads in to the fantastic 'Einheit des Lichtes': fans of 70s German synth and electronic soundtracks of John Carpenter will find much to love within the tracks ten minute length. 'Garten des Lichtes' follows that same same Carpenteresque theme of squelchy synth and scoff horror tone as it begins, but then leads way to a more weightless electronic ambience, and again, is cinematic in tone.

Elsewhere, on the record is 'Spandau' a more jazz inflected psych-funk piece, led by saxophone and infectious drum trickery.  Stand out track 'Wurmloch' offers up a magnificent slice of kosmische rock. 'Wahn' is a repetitive pattern that drives the track over unpredictable burst of synth noise and cymbals, with occasional, fuzzed up electronica working in stark contrast to the more luminous pieces that have gone before. The record ends with 'Duftnote' a more gentle track that acts as a musical descent and return to calm, as its floats delicately to its final fading notes.

La Grande Bellezza is a beautiful and at times, arresting journey. Whilst it occasionally sounds familiar in its more cinematic moments, it also does incredible and unpredictable things. For their third release, Sounds of New Soma have exceeded expectations by crafting an engaging record of cosmic wonder, and also strengthen the already strong reputation of label Tonzonen Records; this an album I'll be playing for the months to come, whilst awaiting the fourth trip.

Album Review...Lamagaia - Lamagaia

Yet another early contender for Album of the Year comes in the form of kosmische laden, psych rock from Sweden' via Gothenburg's Lamagaia.  This is a split release from 2 labels with a reputation for ensuring their output is constantly interesting, challenging and most importantly mind meltingly good. 'Lamagaia' is the follow up to the self released 'Lamagius' this time released via Sunrise Ocean Bender and Cardinal Fuzz records.

First track up is 'Aurora'; drums pound rhythmically over a wall of growling guitars and noise, as the song builds, and builds relentlessly
It’s a Fuzzed up, mesmerising song that flys through its 16 minute length, going by in what feels like just a few minutes.  Its intensity builds and envelopes,  taking you along on its journey of sonic, psychedelic magic. Side B 'Paronama Vju' appears to follows a less abrasive path, at first, whilst remaining vivid; the track evolves over a repetitive groove of drones, drums and bass, whilst guitars freeform its way forward to a peak, before winding its way down to its rippling close. Lamagaia's self titled offering is an incredible record; both tracks deliver one of the most immersive listening experiences you'll have right now. Like the bands debut before, this record will keep you coming back to relive and discover the treasures within.
The decision to split the release between 2 labels is a sound on; the addictive noise within both suits the psychedelic styles of past SOB releases as well as the more explosive and urgent releases from The Good Cardinal; one can only hope that between both camps enough people will be turned on to this fantastic record.
Highly recommended.

Ive included a link to to the self released Lamagaius which is currently up on You Tube as thats also well worth your time and attention.
